Mental Health Partners: Help when you need it

Posted

Mental Health Partners (MHP) started as an organization in 1962 with the purpose to provide good quality access to mental and behavioral health services in Boulder and Broomfield counties. Over the years, community members have expressed the great need in the mountain communities for these services at a location more accessible to them. As MHP is the federally designated mental health provider for Boulder County, they serve many clients on Medicaid and/or those who are indigent.

MHP opened its space at 80 Big Springs Drive, Nederland, in July 2022. They partnered with Clinica Family Health to make services available in Nederland and surrounding areas. They primarily serve Boulder and Broomfield counties at 11 different facilities, one of which is Nederland. The services offered range from general mental health therapy to specialized care. Some of the specialties are addiction/withdrawal, anxiety, PTSD, depression, trauma, housing insecurity, psychiatry, life and wellness coaching, nursing support, peer support, psychosis treatment and jail-based services.

“While MHP provides vital services to everyone in Boulder and Broomfield Counties who need it, our priority is to serve individuals and communities that don’t have the means or resources to access mental health services,” said Katie Maffitt of Mental Health Partners.

They feel the partnership with Clinica in Nederland is an exciting endeavor and are very excited to be serving Nederland and the Mountain Community.

The Nederland site is outpatient only and offers brief episodic therapy, support counseling, case management and peer support. The priority for this location is to serve Boulder County residents on the Peak to Peak (Allenspark, Coal Creek Canyon, Eldora and Eldorado Springs included). Yet if someone comes from Gilpin or Larimer they can be served as well.

Telehealth is included in the services as COVID has made this much easier for some who have difficulty getting into the office. When asked to share their favorite part of the job, Ari Goodman, the Nederland office’s Client Service Advisor, says “Being able to work in the community I care most about and being a part of a new project that Nederland has been trying to achieve for some time.” There are three MHP employees in the office: a Behavioral Health Professional, a Client Service Advisor, and a Peer Support Specialist.

MHP has been in the community for 60 years and anticipates reaching other milestones soon. They have grown immensely and expanded in that time period. Nederland is smaller compared to other locations but the need to expand and grow will be continuously evaluated. There are no barriers to being of service to those in need and they can be accessed via telehealth or in-person.

The leadership team at MHP consists of Jennifer Leosz, co-CEO with Dixie Casford, co-CEO; Katie Maffitt, Director; and Kate Parker, VP of Clinical Operations.
