How do you vote?

PEAK PERSPECTIVES

Posted

Hmm...how to vote in the upcoming Primary? As an unaffiliated voter I am thankful to have all sides of every story. Sometimes there are sooo many sides. Yet…in my mind…there are no sides. It’s a circle with infinite possibilities.

I read a lot. Normally when I first wake up (around 5:30 a.m.) until I’m about to go to sleep (around midnight). I read and read. I read letters, stories, blogs, emails and more. Every day. I feel like I have a great amount of information. And I still question my own ability to make an informed decision, because there is still more information I haven’t read.

Hmm...which ballot to vote? Democratic? Republican? That’s the best part of being unaffiliated. I get both in the early elections. And I have to be careful to make good decisions. This ballot is extra difficult for me because I have my own beliefs of what may be good (or bad) for our county…and our country.

What if I vote this way, and someone else is selected? What if I vote that way, and my choice is not selected.

This week I talked to my son, who is 18 and a newly registered voter. Except, where is his ballot? (Hmm… the schools don’t seem to have turned in his info somehow.) He reminded me to “vote for who I believe in and not against who I don’t.” Now where does that come from? Smart kid, my Hayden.

That leaves me to ponder... where does my conscience lie? Who should I pick? I like this one, but not that one. And this one is a friend for a couple of decades, but the rest of that ballot doesn’t make sense to me. And don’t even get me started on making tough decisions on who will represent me in my county. I mean…hmm. A lot tonight here.

Regardless, there is a lot of actual “factual” information out there. And a whole lot of “other” information too. I know I need to take it all into account and think hard about who I may be “voting for instead of against.”

And friends, if you haven’t read it or have only read one part of it, make sure to read and research the rest.

Here is a recent Q&A with both candidates for Gilpin County Commissioner, District 1. Both are on the Republican ballot.
