Some words for the week
I take the trash out in the rain
because I want to feel the water
soak my clothes
it’s been a long day
in a long week
in a year that has
gone way too fast
and I’m afraid my life
will never break free
or this endless yet slipping cycle
but it’s trash day tomorrow
and so I drag out the can
and the rain dots my clothes
and I look up at the sky
and there is a rainbow there
perfectly defined
a miracle of light and color
and water and sun
all it took was pausing
for a second
and looking up
